Food Literacy Project
Erasmus Project designed to enhance public awareness by educating people about the nutritional content of the food they consume.
Erasmus+ KA220-YOU Β· Project NΒ° 2023-TR01-KA220-YOU-000174770
Euro-Activa is a proud partner in the Food Literacy Project, a European cooperation initiative funded under the Erasmus+ Programme (KA220-YOU β Cooperation Partnerships for Youth). Bringing together organisations from TΓΌrkiye and several EU countries, the project supports young people and adults in reading, understanding and acting on food-related information β from nutrition labels and allergens to safety standards and sustainable choices.
At the heart of the project is a shared ambition: to make food literacy accessible, practical and digital. To that end, the consortium has developed a dedicated mobile application (the FoodApp), an educational handbook translated into several languages, and a set of interactive learning tools β including quizzes and games β designed for use in both formal and non-formal education settings.
Euro-Activa contributes to this effort by hosting international activities in Brussels and by designing dedicated educational modules on food literacy, delivered to young people and multiplier audiences across Europe.

π±The FoodApp
One of the project’s flagship outputs is the FoodApp, a free mobile application that helps consumers make more informed food choices in just a few taps. By scanning a product’s barcode β or simply searching by name or category β users can quickly check its salt, sugar and additive content, view its halal-certification status, and browse the E-code additive database to understand what each ingredient actually does. The app also includes personalised product lists, a search function, and a section addressing common misconceptions and frequently asked questions about food labelling, making healthy shopping simpler and more accessible for everyone.
The FoodApp is available free of charge on both Android and iOS:

Project Activities Hosted by Euro-Activa
LTT 3 β Learning, Teaching and Training Activity in Brussels
20β26 April 2025 Β· Brussels, Belgium
Euro-Activa welcomed the Food Literacy consortium in Brussels for the project’s third Learning, Teaching and Training Activity. Over the course of a week-long programme, partner representatives explored how digital tools can support better nutritional habits, with a particular focus on the project’s FoodApp.
The programme combined institutional and practical components: participants held exchanges at the European Parliament, received a briefing on Belgian and EU food-safety rules from the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (AFSCA), and carried out hands-on testing of the FoodApp in real-world settings. The activity also marked the presentation of new Turkish, German and French editions of the project’s food-literacy handbook, and closed with the award of participation certificates to all attendees.

Transnational Project Meeting & Multiplier Event
17β19 May 2026 Β· Brussels, Belgium β hosted by Euro-Activa
In May 2026, Euro-Activa hosted the project’s Transnational Project Meeting (TPM) in Brussels, bringing the full partnership together to take stock of the project’s progress. Discussions centred on a joint assessment of the outputs produced so far, alignment on budget and financial-reporting requirements among partners, and preparation of the steps leading to the project’s final report.
As part of this gathering, Euro-Activa also organised the project’s official Multiplier Event, held on the evening of 18 May 2026 at Hotel Liman, Brussels. Open to the wider public, the event brought together around 50 participants from diverse backgrounds for an evening dedicated to food literacy. The programme included an overview of the European food-information regulatory framework, interactive quizzes, and a live demonstration of the FoodApp. Euro-Activa also used the occasion to present the three educational modules it developed as part of the project. The evening closed with an open discussion and networking session among participants and the project consortium.
